The Brighton Capoeira Angola Group
Mestre Laercio (seen here with a black hat playing the Berimbau Gunga) holds the music together at this Roda in Brighton.
Central to the teachings of this Mestre, the music is a key part of Capoeira: it must be experienced with energy and commitment, and every person playing instruments and/or singing must contribute with their best efforts to the quality of the whole musical experience.
According to Mestre Laercio: a good capoeirista should be recognised not only through their mastery of "fancy" movements, but also by their ability with the instruments, the energy of their singing and their knowledge of the Capoeira lore.
